New Net City (A008)
My New Net City is up and running and ready to go. Actually it has been for a while but I’ve only just got around to taking pictures of it 🙂
NNC is one of my favourite cabs because you don’t really need to worry about what you throw at the screen in terms of signal. It makes life so much easier.
Switching from hori to tate is simple enough so it’s not a problem if I change my mind and want to change the orientation on a whim (I’m looking at you Metal Slug).
It’s a 1 player control panel so perfect for all my arcade shooting needs. I generally prefer 2 player control panels even though I only ever play one player because the seating position is slightly to the left, which for some reason I prefer.
It currently has Ketsui in it so I use a Jammafier to convert from JAMMA on the Ketsui to the JVS of the system.
I’ve also run DoDonPachi DaiOuJou on it and I can never make my mind up which to play. And right now, at this second, I just remembered I have a 6 way JAMMA switcher. I am such an idiot! I’ll be hooking that up post-haste!
The sound is awesome on these cabs too. I haven’t upgraded the amplifier or speakers or anything like that but it’s great anyway with nice bassy oomph to it. Well, enough for me anyway.
I had to spend a while dialing in the geometry on this particular cab. I’ve made it as big as I can but this particular CAVE board will not go quite full screen.
Something I found out while getting this cab up and running is that the NNC monitor control board (the button panel under the control panel) does not have geometry on it and neither does the chassis. It turns out that there’s an ‘engineers’ version of the control board which does have the geometry controls. You can solder some jumpers and switches onto the existing board to make the options available but I bought one ready made on UKVAC. It was £25 if I remember correctly but is a handy piece of kit I can use with my other NNC if needs be, or any future NNCs (here’s hoping).
The screen surround is yellowed. I could go use some hair bleach to whiten it up but I’m just not bothered so it would be a bit of a waste of my time.
Time to put this in it’s slot in my office so I can play Ketsui any time I like and move on to the Aero City next to it 🙂
